Muslim brides (Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and Indian Muslim families). Design requests here are usually floral, paisley and geometric rather than figurative — many families prefer to avoid human or animal imagery in the design, so we default to botanical and geometric motifs unless told otherwise. Mehndi is typically applied the night before the Nikah, often as its own women’s-only celebration.

Sikh brides (predominantly Indian, Punjabi). Mehndi here sits within the broader Punjabi wedding sequence leading to the Anand Karaj — bold, dense jaal-style coverage is the most requested look, often with the groom’s name or initials hidden playfully in the palm design, a tradition many Sikh and Hindu Punjabi families both keep.

Hindu brides (Indian, regional variation by family). Hindu weddings are typically multi-day, and mehndi is frequently its own dedicated ceremony alongside Sangeet and Haldi — design requests vary significantly by regional background (Gujarati families often want fine linework and mandala-centred palms; Rajasthani and Punjabi Hindu families more often want dense floral-paisley coverage; South Indian Hindu families sometimes want more figurative Mughal-style motifs like peacocks or lotus flowers).

Christian brides (South Asian Christian, including Goan, Kerala Syrian Christian, and Anglo-Indian families). Mehndi is usually treated as a cultural pre-wedding event rather than a religious requirement — often lighter coverage, simpler floral patterns, and scheduled as a standalone celebration separate from the church ceremony itself rather than tied to a specific ritual sequence.

Tamil brides (South Indian and Sri Lankan Tamil). Design often draws on kolam-inspired geometric patterning rather than the Mughal-influenced florals common in North Indian styles — more angular, symmetrical, and rooted in South Indian temple art traditions. For Sri Lankan Tamil brides specifically, mehndi has traditionally played a smaller role in the wedding sequence than in Pakistani, Bangladeshi or North Indian weddings, so we spend more consultation time working from individual preference rather than a fixed convention.

Process, and Timing

Consultations run from our Blackpool studio, or by video call if you’re coordinating your Blackpool wedding from further inland. We use fresh-mixed natural henna, no PPD, patch-testable 24–48 hours ahead. Application runs 2–4 hours depending on coverage. We travel throughout the Lancashire coast — Fleetwood, Cleveleys, Poulton-le-Fylde, Garstang, Preston, Chorley, Leyland, Lytham St Annes, Southport and Ormskirk.

A note for destination bookings: because a large share of our Blackpool clients are travelling in for a seafront hotel wedding rather than living locally, we’re used to coordinating mehndi timing around a full wedding weekend at one venue — tell us your full schedule (Nikah, Anand Karaj, Sangeet, church ceremony, reception) at booking so we can fit the application in at the right point.

Aftercare

Leave the paste undisturbed for 6–8 hours minimum; the longer it sits, the darker the eventual stain. Avoid water for the first 72 hours, then moisturise daily from day four with coconut, almond or sesame oil, wear gloves for cleaning, and use fragrance-free soap. If you’re at a seafront hotel, sea air and wind can dry the paste faster than expected in the first hour after application — keep it loosely covered if you’re heading outside for photos straight away.

My family is Muslim and prefers no human or animal figures in the design — is that a problem?

Not at all — tell us at consultation and we’ll design entirely in floral, paisley and geometric motifs, which is the most common request from Muslim families we work with.

I’m Sikh and want the groom’s initials hidden somewhere in the design — can you do that?

Yes, this is a well-established tradition we build in regularly for Sikh and Hindu Punjabi weddings — tell us where you’d like it placed.

My wedding is Hindu with multiple days of events — when should mehndi happen?

Usually alongside Sangeet or as its own dedicated ceremony, a day or two before the main wedding. Send us your full event schedule and we’ll recommend the best slot for full colour development by the main day.

I’m a Christian bride and mehndi isn’t part of my family’s usual wedding tradition, but I’d like to include it — is that okay?

Completely — a lot of South Asian Christian brides we work with treat it as its own standalone cultural celebration rather than tying it to a specific ritual. We’ll design around your timeline, not a fixed religious sequence.

I’m Tamil (Sri Lankan) and mehndi wasn’t a big part of weddings in my family — can you still help me design something?

Yes — we spend extra consultation time on this specifically, working from your own preferences and reference images rather than assuming a fixed convention, since Tamil and Sri Lankan Tamil mehndi traditions vary more by family than Pakistani or Bangladeshi styles do.

Can I book mehndi on short notice?

We accommodate rush bookings when availability allows — contact us as early as possible, with a premium fee for very last-minute requests.
